3.2.5 Vacation

Faculty

Departmental faculty shall normally be expected to follow work schedules that conform to the academic calendar. They do not accrue vacation days but may observe University term or holiday break periods that are designated by the President.

Administrative/Professional

Each staff administrator shall designate all Administrative/Professional positions for which it is anticipated the work assignment will not conform to the academic calendar. The designation will be based upon the duties and responsibilities performed in the position.

All other Administrative/Professional positions not so designated shall maintain a work schedule conforming to the academic calendar as established by the Provost at Illinois State University and shall therefore not accrue vacation days but may observe University term or holiday break periods as designated by the President, such as Thanksgiving or Spring break.

Vacation earned for those in noncontinuing Administrative/Professional appointments must be used within the contract period in which earned.

Vacation shall be earned at the rate of two working days per month for those employees whose work schedules do not conform to the academic calendar.

An academic employee whose work schedule does not conform to the academic calendar and whose appointment is reduced from 100% level shall have all vacation hours in excess of the maximum allowed for the new appointment placed in escrow at the time the appointment is reduced from 100% until the appointment level is returned to the original 100% level or the employee terminates his or her service with the University. A faculty or administrative/professional employee on less than 100% appointment shall earn vacation hours at an accrual rate equal to the percentage time of the appointment.

Pay in lieu of vacation will not be allowed except upon termination of a vacation-accruing, continuing appointment at the University. The employee has the option to receive a lump sum payment made for the amount of vacation accumulated as of the last day of the vacation-accruing, continuing assignment.
